Back to the Grind! Here we are, at the start of the football season (finally!) and the beginning of the Fourth Quarter, 2011. It's definitely an exciting time of the year, with the kids back to work, like the rest of us. Yes, the leisure of Summer is now replaced with a renewed spirit of work... Summers external warmth replaced with an internal glow via spiced candles, raging fireplaces, and hearty meals. Time to nest, but certainly not time to rest. This month, we put some weight back in the glass to stand up to those cold nights and hot meals. Enjoy! Montepio Torrontes, 2010, La Rioja, Argentina Argentina is world famous for its Malbec. However, Argentina produces many more varietals than just Malbec, and good quality wine is produced in many more provinces than Mendoza. A complete history of the wine industry can be found at HERE. Montepio offers a range of distinctive Argentine wines that remains in the global mainstream. The duo of Daniel Gonzalez and Sergio Yanardi source outstanding lots from independent growers from far and wide (Mendoza and beyond). Click Here to learn more about the grape Torrontes. The Wine: The high, wind-swept vineyards in La Rioja are perfectly suited to Argentina's signature white varietal. The resulting wine is a ripe, refined and distinctive version, offering aromas of exotic tropical fruit, distinctive floral notes, and intense fruit and crisp acidity on the palate. Tropical aromas of lychee and melon are bright but a little oily. The palate is round and honest in feel and acidity, with pineapple, lemon, tangerine and lychee flavors. Sweet and spunky on the finish. 86 Points, Wine Enthusiast
